Major Headlines:
· As expected, Call of Duty 2024 will fall into the Black-Ops series.
· The new Black Ops will be set in the Gulf War, with a focus on the clandestine operations of the CIA.
· Previous leaks point to a return of round-based zombie modes and remastered maps from previous Call of Duty Black Ops entries.
Despite criticism Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 has set a new Modern Warfare engagement record. It has recorded the highest engagement in MW Trilogy. With that, one question that is arising is, what about the next game? Well, several sources confirmed the upcoming version of Call of Duty, which we can expect to be rolled out near the end of next year.
As reported by Windows Central, Treyarch is preparing to back its entry in the Black Ops series. Treyarch's last game was Black Ops: Cold War in 2020. Also, Activision’s plan reveals that Call of Duty 2024 is indeed Black Ops. It will contain a historical appearance from the early 1990s. It will contain a Gulf war theme with clandestine operations of the CIA on behalf of US-led forces.
As this one would take place during relatively recent history, you would be using real-world technology from the conflict, as opposed to near-future tech. It may also address the end of the Cold War, as the series has become known for a paranoid-thriller style of alternate history retellings.

Currently, Black Ops "6" is widely referred to by codenames over the internet; its official name might not be finalized yet. But if we go by Treyarch's activity, which involved dropping the numeral name for its most recent release, "Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War," the upcoming game might be called Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War, which would back up some earlier rumors.
Activision is also apparently planning to largely rely on pre-order bonuses for the game next year, with various early access periods for early buyers, according to reports from Windows Central. For the standard game, early access durations of a few days are reportedly possible; however, early access periods of many weeks may be granted for some modes, such as Zombies.
Gulf War As Central Theme, With CIA Operations in Storyline
Under the Black Ops name, Call of Duty 2024 will retrace some of the more controversial military activities of the West in scenarios of international conflict. The first significant battle between a coalition of U.S.-led military and Saddam Hussein's Iraq will be depicted in Black Ops "6", as occurred during the Gulf War. Following the Hussein regime's invasion of Kuwait, United States President George W. Bush Sr. and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher formed the strongest military coalition since World War II when they sent troops into Iraq along with those from Egypt and Saudi Arabia. In an age before drone warfare, it also heralded a new era of extensively televised warfare, the war also saw some of the biggest tank fights in American history. Operation Desert Storm, in particular, became well-known for its live media coverage.
Black Ops "6" will make an effort to examine a complex story of the Gulf War, critical of several players involved in the fighting. It will tie in with the conclusion of the Cold War era and examine some of its consequences.
Grind and WMD, two popular Black Ops maps, will make a reappearance in Call of Duty 2024, according to a story that was previously shared on Twitter (X, via Insider Gaming). The resurrection of round-based zombie modes is also hinted at via game file leaks.
Tug of War b/w Activision and Microsoft
That's right, this would be Microsoft's second Call of Duty game. They just finished the huge acquisition of Activision Blizzard right before the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. And even though Microsoft now owns the series, it won't be exclusive to them. As a condition of the deal being approved by regulators, Microsoft promised to keep the series on PlayStation. Activision already has plans for the series that go all the way through 2027, so those plans will last for a long time.
Wrapping Up
The next Call of Duty will have the first 4-year development cycle in the history of the series. Fans of the series should be happy about this, as they've thought that the last few games were rushed.
No matter what happens with Call of Duty 2024, the people who worked on it will hope that it does better than Modern Warfare 3, which got pretty bad reviews from both fans and reviewers when it came out. Fans aren't sure if Sledgehammer Games is telling the truth when they say the game was "years in the making" instead of being rushed and made under tight deadlines.
